Overview

Osprey Inspection carried out a full topside drone visual inspection of Deepsea Bergen, a semi-submersible drilling rig operated by Odfjell Drilling on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The campaign captured the condition of the rig's high steelwork, coatings and safety-critical structures while the unit stayed operational — replacing conventional rope-access and scaffolding work. All flights were coordinated with the OIM and platform crew and flown inside approved SIMOPS windows, with no production stop.

Operating from a moving semi-submersible in open water, our offshore-certified pilots used collision-tolerant UAVs to reach the derrick, crane boom and helideck underside without placing personnel at height. 4K video and high-resolution stills documented corrosion, coating breakdown and weld condition to a standard suitable for NS 415 visual structural assessment.

Deliverables

Osprey delivered a structured inspection report within days of demobilisation: GPS-referenced photographs, a defect register with severity classification aligned to NS 415 VT categories, annotated findings, and prioritised maintenance recommendations the rig's integrity team could action directly. Point-of-interest imagery was indexed by structure for fast retrieval during follow-up.
